The Wao-os Shrine in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom presents a unique physics puzzle that tests your understanding of trajectory and momentum. Tucked away inside a deep cave system, finding this shrine requires careful navigation through the Hebra region. Once inside, players must utilize catapult mechanics to launch objects and hit distant targets to claim their rewards.
Finding the Wao-os Shrine Location
To locate the Wao-os Shrine, head toward the Hebra Mountains footprint zone northwest of the Rito Village area. Look for the West Hebra Skyview Tower as a convenient fast-travel point before heading down into the nearby cave entrance. The shrine itself is hidden inside the West Hebra Pillar Cave, requiring you to enter the cavern to discover the glowing green altar.
Navigating through the cave is relatively straightforward, though players should be prepared for dark corners and light climbing. Following the natural path down into the cavern will lead you directly to the entrance of the shrine. Make sure to stock up on cold-resistance gear or meals before exploring this chilly region of Hyrule.
Solving the First Catapult Puzzle
Inside the Wao-os Shrine, titled Lever Power, you will encounter a large lever mechanism and a metal bowl. Use Ultrahand to attach the bowl to one end of the lever arm to create a functional catapult. Place the nearby orb into the bowl, then drop a heavy iron cube onto the opposite side to launch the orb toward the target across the room.
Hitting the lower target unlocks the first sealed gate, allowing you to proceed deeper into the shrine chamber. If your alignment is slightly off, adjust the position of the bowl using Ultrahand until the trajectory hits the target cleanly. Precision is key to ensuring the orb lands directly in the center ring.
Reaching the Upper Target and Secret Chest
Beyond the first gate, you will find a wooden plank that can be attached to extend the catapult arm further. Combining the plank with the lever allows you to launch the orb much higher toward a elevated target on the wall. Striking this second target opens the final doorway leading to the shrine exit and blessing.
Before leaving the shrine, you can also use the upgraded catapult setup to launch Link himself into the air. Glide toward the high ledge on the side of the main chamber to locate the hidden treasure chest containing valuable loot. Once collected, drop back down to collect your Light of Blessing from the terminal.
